What Is Kombucha?

Changing the World, One Gut At a Time™

Question: What is Kombucha?

Answer: Kombucha is simply fermented tea, an ancient elixir consumed for hundreds or thousands of years by civilizations all over the planet.

Kombucha is a tasty, transformative brew that has been growing in popularity over the decades. While it’s nothing new, it hasn’t been commercially available for a very long time. It had spread in popularity through grassroots channels, but only until recently has it begun to explode in popularity through commercial avenues.

If you’re asking, “what is Kombucha?” It’s a special type of beverage that can be home brewed through fermenting sweet tea within a culture of yeast and bacteria. It’s more commonly known as a brew through the use of a “SCOBY,” (or Kombucha mother, or Kombucha mushroom) which is short for symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast. When you make Kombucha, you need tea, sugar, a SCOBY and a starter from a previous batch of Kombucha.
