Frequently Asked Questions

Is Kombucha hard to make?

Not at all. If you can make a cup of tea, you can make Kombucha. With a SCOBY, sweet tea, and a warm spot on the counter, the culture does the work for you. Most beginners succeed on the very first batch, especially when following a trusted, step-by-step guide like our Lucky 13 Recipe Method.

What equipment do I need?

You can start with just a glass jar, tea, sugar, a SCOBY with starter liquid, a cloth cover, and a warm environment. For consistent results, many brewers also use: a thermometer strip, a spigot-style brew vessel, heating mat, pH tools, or swing-top bottles for flavoring and carbonation. Our Starter Kits include everything needed for reliable, delicious brews from day one.

Is homebrewed Kombucha safe?

Yes — when made with proper ingredients, clean equipment, and a healthy SCOBY, Kombucha is very safe. The acidity of the ferment naturally protects against harmful microbes. Problems usually occur only when instructions from unreliable sources are followed. Kombucha Kamp has taught hundreds of thousands of brewers worldwide since 2004, and our safety-first methods are industry standard.

What’s the difference between SCOBYs and kits?

A SCOBY is the living culture that ferments sweet tea into Kombucha. A kit includes a SCOBY plus everything else you need to start brewing successfully: tea blends, sugar, tools, cloth covers, instructions, and sometimes a brew vessel. SCOBYs are perfect if you already have supplies; kits are ideal for beginners who want a simple, guaranteed path to success.
